About Me

You may have heard the term radio used before without really knowing what it was. Maybe you thought it meant groups. Either way, radio is an outdated term that tends to be projected without a clear definition. So while you may think of a radio being an electric gadget, the literal definition has many different meanings and interpretations. For example, the verb (to radio person) actually means to transmit energy via radio waves, whether it is from a room to room transmission or from a country to another room.

The term radio can also mean broadcasting. This means that the medium that the ecouter la radio en direct broadcasts is not necessarily a radio. It could be a CD player, television, computer monitor, or even a set of speakers. This broadcast can be done on a radio station or on the Internet. It all depends on the environment the radio station broadcasts. The same can be said for an Internet radio station.

The main difference between radio and other forms of entertainment like television is that radio can be transmitted over long distances at the same time. But the radio can only transmit so fast. It maxes out around 3 mega miles per second. So, if you wanted to listen to your favorite radio show, you would need to have a radio dish with a satellite radio. Of course, the farther away the radio satellite is from the listener, the less radio waves would be released and the less radio would be received by listeners.

So where does this leave the radio? Well, while it is true that there are only a few radio stations left that broadcast over the Air in the United States, there are still millions of people listening to them every day. These millions of people would be happy to pay for a subscription to a web radio service. In fact, many of these web radio services are actually free to sign up. So, so it didn't matter where the radio is headed as long as enough listeners keep tweaking the tuning to make it profitable.

As for the future of radio, it looks like it will continue to become more interactive. Some radio stations already have apps for their smartphones and iPhones, which allow users to listen to their shows through their mobile phones. They also have plans for new software that will allow users to listen to their radio broadcasts online through their computers and possibly through their televisions (ie Internet TV subscription).

This can all get really exciting for radio enthusiasts who enjoy podcasts and live radio. If you want to know what's to come, subscribe to RSS feeds for upcoming live radio events on the World Wide Web. The feeds are generally updated weekly. Also, keep an eye out for local radio stations. Often times they broadcast live special events via the feed on the webcast, so check often to see if they have a special for you. You will likely find some great live music or sporting events, if you tune in.
